WELCOME TO THE RETRO ASCII GUIDE FOR THE LABBEJ27 MINITEL SERVER.
This page explains how to connect your classic French Minitel
to the LABBEJ27 server or other minitel server, how the system works, and how to connect through Web, Telephone or WebSocket.

SECTION 1 — WHAT IS THE LABBEJ27 MINITEL SERVER ?
The LABBEJ27 Minitel Server is a project to bring the classic French Minitel experience back to life with modern infrastructure.
The server was originally running on a small Intel Compute Stick,
but on October 13th 2025 was migrated to a robust HP DL 380 Gen 9
running Debian.
This project is inspired by the work done at IUT d’Auxerre, a complete effort to preserve Minitel technology by adapting old Minitel terminals to modern networks.
The LABBEJ27 Minitel Server now offers:
- Compatibility with real Minitel terminals through telephone line or network.
- A MiniPavi gateway running on Debian with Asterisk.
- Services accessible via telephone, web emulators, and WebSocket.
- A modern Debian server powered by reliable hardware.
This makes it possible to relive the authentic Minitel experience
while using up-to-date technologies.

SECTION 2 — HOW TO CONNECT YOUR MINITEL
The server is accessible through several methods:
1) Telephone Line (Classic Minitel):
Use your Minitel terminal like in the 80s/90s.
Dial the number configured for the LABBEJ27 service.
The system uses Asterisk and MiniPavi as a gateway.

2) Web Emulator:
A web-based Minitel interface is available:
https://minitel.labbej.fr/emulminitel/
This runs a MiniPavi emulator in your browser and connects
to the LABBEJ27 services without hardware.
3) WebSocket Connection:
A modern method using WebSocket over the internet:
wss://minitel.labbej.fr:8182/
This allows terminal data to travel in real time between
a Minitel (or emulator) and the server.

SECTION 3 — HOW TO CONNECT WITH WEBCONSOLE MINITEL (SERIAL + WEBSOCKET)
You can connect a physical Minitel to a WebSocket server using a special software bridge called WebSocket-Minitel.

This tool provides an application that connects the DIN-5 serial port of a Minitel to a WebSocket server like the LABBEJ27 gateway.
The software supports multiple platforms:
- Windows 10 & 11 (64-bit)
- Windows XP (32-bit)
- Raspberry Pi arm64 & amd64 (for other Linux)
- macOS ARM64 (Apple Silicon M4)
HOW IT WORKS:
- The program opens a serial port connected to your Minitel DIN5.
- It opens a WebSocket connection to the LABBEJ27 server and others :

SECTION 4 — QUICK START
1) Plug a DIN-5 serial cable from your Minitel to a computer.
2) Run the WebSocket-Minitel application from https://github.com/labbej27/websocket-minitel
3) Connect to the server WebSocket at:
wss://minitel.labbej.fr:8182/
4) Your Minitel will display text from the LABBEJ27 server in real time.
