||***************RETRO / MINITEL / NETWORKING**************||

Welcome, digital wanderer.

You have reached the workshop of Jimmy Labbé — a space where
old technology meets modern code, where Minitel terminals
speak SSH, and where serial ports come back to life.

Below is a catalog of my public software projects hosted on
GitHub. Open source, experimental, nostalgic. All free to use.

[0x01] MAIN HANGAR — SOURCE CODE

This is the gate. Everything I code eventually ends up there.
Sometimes stable, sometimes chaotic — always fun.

[0x02] PROJECTS INDEX ///////////////////////////////////////

SSH-SERIAL

  • Repo: https://github.com/labbej27/sshserial
  • Purpose:
    Serial-over-SSH communication utility.
Ideal for interacting with retro hardware from modern systems.
  • Features:
  • Lightweight and straightforward
  • Remote device access via SSH
  • Great for workshops, maintenance or hacking sessions

SSH-MINITEL

  • Repo: https://github.com/labbej27/sshminitel
  • Concept:
Connect a real Minitel terminal to remote systems using SSH.
  • Why?
Because terminals shouldn’t die — they should evolve.
  • Good for:
  • Retro telematics
  • Demonstrations + exhibitions
  • Tinkering with vintage tech

MINITEL SLIDESHOW TOOL

WEBSOCKET MINITEL GATEWAY

  • Repo: https://github.com/labbej27/websocket-minitel
  • Goal:
Bridge a Minitel terminal with modern web apps through WebSockets.
  • Basically:
    A portal from 1980 to 2025.
  • Enables:
  • Browser → Minitel communication
  • Network-controlled retro displays
  • Live demos with modern servers

MINITEL PROJECT HUB (Showcase Website)

  • Website: https://labbej27.github.io
  • Content:
A visual hub that presents my Minitel-related work.
  • Perfect if you want:
  • Quick project overview
  • Documentation & links in one place
  • To dive into French telecommunication history via code

[0x03] WHY RETRO?

Because obsolete doesn’t mean dead.
Because old machines still speak — you just have to listen.
Because reviving forgotten tech is a form of digital archaeology.

My work tries to connect the past to the present,
wire by wire, byte by byte.

[0x04] CONTRIBUTIONS & COLLABS

Forks, issues, PRs — all welcome.

If you build something cool with these tools,
please share it. Retro hackers unite.

[0x05] ROADMAP (or dreams… who knows?)

  • More Minitel experiments
  • Retro network protocols reimagined
  • Live exhibitions & telematic art
  • Interactive web retro interfaces
  • Code written just for the fun of it

If the 80s could surf the web, it would probably look like this.
